The bottle for the perfume Le Roy Soleil, created in 1947 as a tribute to Louis XIV, was designed by Salvador Dalí and produced in a limited edition of two thousand by the renowned crystal maker Baccarat. It was presented in a large, gilded metal shell. The sunburst-shaped cabochon was surmounted by a relief of the bottle depicting a rock battered by waves.

The birds in flight, depicted on the sun, created an additional perspective and formed a trompe-l'œil image of a face. The Sun King also evokes the Place Vendôme, where the Schiaparelli boutique is located, as it was called Place Louis le Grand before the French Revolution. A statue of the monarch once stood where the Vendôme Column now stands.

The Duchess of Windsor, to whom Elsa Schiaparelli had given a copy of the perfume, wrote to her: "Dear Madame Schiaparelli, this is the most beautiful bottle that could exist and the Sun King is a persevering and delightful gentleman... he has replaced the photograph of the Duke of Windsor on my dressing table!"
