JEAN COCTEAU
SCHIAPARELLI COAT EMBROIDERED WITH TWO FACES IN TROMPE L'OEIL AND SHOCKING ROSES
1937
In 1937, Jean Cocteau gave Elsa Schiaparelli a drawing that inspired the couturier to create a coat. Embroidered by Lesage, this coat was part of her Autumn 1937 Haute Couture collection.
Thanks to an optical illusion, two faces in profile can also be seen as a vase filled with shocking roses placed atop a column. This motif is featured on the back of the blue silk jersey evening coat.
