PABLO PICASSO
Hands painted in trompe-l'œil to imitate gloves
1935
The hands painted by Picasso, imitating trompe-l'œil gloves, and photographed by Man Ray, inspired Elsa Schiaparelli.
She had these famous black gloves with nails made of red python. She then expanded on this idea by offering gloves with gold claws, with rings on the fingers, or with gathers forming trompe-l'oeil scars.
