JEAN-MICHEL FRANK
SCHIAPARELLI PERFUME BOTTLE
1934
In 1934, Elsa Schiaparelli commissioned her friend Jean-Michel Frank to design the bottle for her first perfume collection: Salut, Schiap et Soucis. Trapezoidal in shape, its clean, graphic lines are characteristic of the aesthetic of the greatest French designer of his time. The perfume was presented in a rectangular cork box, a humble material that defied the prevailing codes of luxury at the time, resulting in a more radical modernity.
As early as 1928, Elsa Schiaparelli entrusted Jean-Michel Frank with the decoration of her first boutique on Rue de la Paix. He then worked for her on more personal projects such as the decoration of her apartment on Rue Saint-Germain, followed by that of Rue Barbet-de-Jouy in 1934.
