The treachery of images: "This is not a pipe"

René Magritte's famous painting The Treachery of Images (1929) with its mythical caption "This is not a pipe" inspired Elsa when she created her only men's fragrance, Snuff, launched in 1940. The pipe-shaped bottle is not a real pipe, just like its cigar box-shaped packaging, which is actually a perfume box.

This process illustrates René Magritte's thesis that "an object never fulfills the same function as its name or its image," as he stated in 1929 in "Words and Images," published in the magazine La Révolution surréaliste.
