MAN RAY
HANDS PAINTED BY PICASSO
1935
The hands painted by Picasso, in such a way as to simulate trompe-l'œil gloves, were photographed by Man Ray in 1935.
Schiaparelli reversed the process by applying false red python nails to black suede calfskin gloves with drawer pockets for her 1936 winter Haute Couture collection. These were worn with the matching drawer-pocket suit from the same collection. She later expanded on this idea, offering gloves with gold claws, rings on the fingers, or trompe-l'œil scars.
