KEES VAN DONGEN
"THE WOMAN WITH THE STARS"
1935
In his painting The Woman with Stars, the painter Kees van Dongen depicted a sheath dress and Venetian cape ensemble with a wide hood from the Schiaparelli Haute Couture Autumn 1935 collection.
This creation by Elsa Schiaparelli was so successful that it was worn by three of the best-dressed women in Paris at an evening event held to celebrate the Grand Prix of the Cercle Interrallié. The cape was made from a fabric exclusively produced by Schiaparelli, Simoun, which was a crinkled silk taffeta.
