Cecil Beaton
Portrait of Elsa Schiaparelli at 21, Place Vendôme
1935
Cecil Beaton created a drawing of Elsa Schiaparelli in the staircase of the Hôtel de Fontpertuis, where she had just opened her Couture House in 1935. Since this day, Schiaparelli has remained the sole French Couture House in the Place Vendôme.
Elsa Schiaparelli asked her friend Jean-Michel Franck to decorate the magnificent large rooms at her new address. He painted the showroom in white, including the fine mouldings, and flooded the rooms with a soft light, thanks to lighting hidden in plaster columns of abstract forms designed with Alberto Giacometti.
