« Schiaparelli Animalia Fantasia » Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2018-19

“Fantasy is a flower that does not flourish on passivity. Determination is what it needs.”

Elsa Schiaparelli, Shocking Life

The style of a woman comes from her spirit and personality. In the case of Elsa Schiaparelli, hers crystalized a femininity of cosmopolitan refinement. From her Mediterranean origin, she went on to live in London and New York before establishing herself in the City of Light – a true Parisian at heart. Her traveling life together with a fanciful sense of humour, a passion for dogs and an equal love for fine art as well as trinkets sum up her eclecticism and emancipated attitude. This season’s collection transcends her wardrobe of neat allure where daily elegant sobriety gives way to a nighttime sensuality imbued with opulence and fantasy.

Creative Spirit: the revisited dressing of the bishops

France's region of Normandy highlights the relationship between Haute Couture and religion through the « Creative Spirit: the revisited dressing of the bishops » exhibition. Curated by The Preservation of Antiquities and Works of Art of the Department of Calvados and in collaboration with Lisieux Normandy Museum Center, the double exhibition takes place at the Hotel du Doyen in Bayeux and at the Museum of Art & History in Lisieux.

Visitors have the opportunity to discover exceptional creations from the greatest names in fashion, all inspired by the Divine. From liturgical outfits to Haute Couture dresses and stage costumes, the Christian religion has been an endless source of creativity for designers who associated their own history and vision to it for a long time.

Among these exceptional pieces, several contemporary Schiaparelli Haute Couture looks created by design director Bertrand Guyon are being featured together with two silhouettes from the Schiaparelli archives including a black silk crepe dress from the Fall 1940 collection embroidered with the Annunciation lilymade with mother-of-pearls and gold plate and a garnet velvet jacket from the Winter 1937/38 collection embellished with golden thread, gold plate and colourful crystals embroideries and shocking pink sun-shaped buttons.

From June 16, 2018 through September 16, 2018 in Bayeux.

From June 16, 2018 through October 14, 2018 in Lisieux.
