“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Costume Institute's spring 2018 exhibition focuses on a conversation between fashion and masterpieces of the medieval era seen through the eye of Catholicism. Presented at The Met Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters, the show engages on the unique relationship fusing tradition and its influence on contemporary designers.

Highlights include a selection of papal clothes and accessories never seen outside the Vatican together with select silhouettes from early 20th century to today’s designers.

Among this are some Schiaparelli Haute Couture pieces such as the Summer 1939 « crossed keys of Saint Peter » gown embroidered with pearls, beads, crystals and metal thread or the Summer 1938 waistcoat-cape in black wool embellished with ex-voto embroidered in golden plate, crystals and colorful stones.
