ALBERTO GIACOMETTI
SCHIAPARELLI JEWELRY
1935
Alberto Giacometti created very rare pieces of jewelry for Elsa Schiaparelli around 1935: brooches, bracelets and other buttons representing mythological, feminine or animal characters.
The face, forming the central motif of this bracelet, recalls in its modeling the female figures that adorn certain bronze or plaster lamps designed by Giacometti around the same time for the decorator Jean-Michel Frank. The naiad's long, wavy hair, which forms the circle of the bracelet, is created using the "écu" bronze casting technique. This technique originated from the casting of coins traditionally paid by the people of a village to provide a dowry for a young woman without family or personal wealth.
